journeys > el dorado

El Dorado is an ongoing project in which I bury small paintings in threatened roadless areas. It has a gallery component: blank panels occupying an otherwise typical painting show. Viewers are invited to borrow a set of clues from the gallery and attempt to locate and unearth the hidden works, returning them to the gallery wall to complete the exhibition. The treasure hunters can then keep the work (at no cost) after the deinstall.
El Dorado first premiered with the exhibition Sad Gods in 2014, as part of the body of work Terra Incognita (see Archive).
